RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SCREENING AND MANAGEMENT OF ENDOCRINOPATHIES AFTER HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION
نویسندگان
چکیده
Endocrine disorders after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation result from the interaction between underlying disease, host characteristics and treatment, including exposure to pre- peri-transplant agents (chemotherapy radiotherapy). In addition, post-transplantation factors, graft-versus-host its especially glucocorticoids, also contribute hormone deficiencies or endocrine disorders. Endocrinological alterations can be divided into six main groups: 1) Growth disorders; 2) Thyroid diseases; 3) Gonadal dysfunction; 4) Adrenal failure; 5) Osteometabolic 6) Obesity metabolic syndrome. The purpose of this article is update screening recommendations management approaches for various diseases, defining populations at risk, during follow-up, treatment strategies, with attention controversial issues.

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Thalassemia
Thalassemia is an autosomal recessive disorder associated with defective synthesis of the α- or β-chain of hemoglobin. For β-thalassemia major patients, therapeutic options are either monthly red cell transfusions and chelation therapy or allogeneic stem cell transplant. Stem cell transplant is the only curative approach and success is inversely correlated with the degree of iron overload and h...

The introduction and evolution of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) could be traced back to 1950s, to the studies on interactions among irradiation, covering spleen and bone marrow from it and injection of bone marrow cells. Today, HSCT is considered a well-established, effective and promising means of therapy for various malignant and non-malignant medical conditions, both in chil...
متن کاملEndocrinopathies after Allogeneic and Autologous Transplantation of Hematopoietic Stem Cells
Early and late endocrine disorders are among the most common complications in survivors after hematopoietic allogeneic- (allo-) and autologous- (auto-) stem cell transplant (HSCT). This review summarizes main endocrine disorders reported in literature and observed in our center as consequence of auto- and allo-HSCT and outlines current options for their management. Gonadal impairment has been f...
متن کاملRelationship between Molecular Chimerism and Graft Versus Host Disease after Allogenic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Background: Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is considered as a curative therapy for a broad range of diseases. However, complications such as relapse and graft versus host disease (GVHD) may be observed following BMT. Chimerism analysis serves as a reliable indicator of transplant outcome. Complete chimerism refers to the complete replacement of hematopoietic system by donor cells, while mixe...
